BREAKING NEWS: Insomniac Announces White Wonderland NYE Festival Merge with GIANT

For the past 13 years, Together-As-One has been a cornerstone of Los Angeles’ EDM scene and an obvious choice for electro bohemians like myself on New Year’s Eve. Unfortunately, Insomniac and TAO have split ways, and the event will only be promoted by GoVentures this year as the event moves from the LA Sports Arena to a remote park in the hills of east OC. TAO losing their Insomniac endorsement and moving to a smaller venue outside of LA County has created a vacuum in the EDM NYE entertainment space that it used to dominate. Insomniac is coming to the rescue and starting a new NYE tradition called White Wonderland with Benny Benassi, Dada Life, and an all white dress code. Insomniac bought out GIANT and Big Time promotions’ NYE event at the Shrine to get Benassi and Dada Life. All tickets to the original event will be honored, but the minimum age has moved from 19 to 21. More information will be announced very soon by Insomniac. The information we already have is from a press release from GIANT promotions about tickets to the Shrine event being honored at White Wonderland. Read more about the event and other news about NYE after the jump!

Rumors have it that this will be a two day event. Finding talent on NYE this late will be hard for Insomniac, but the prince of wonderland Pasquale Rotella would not put the show on unless he had enough talent to create his experience. Most big name DJs are already booked, so I’m hoping for a lineup filled with upcoming talent like Mord Fustang or throwbacks like Justice. Finding talent for Sunday will be much easier. Who are you hoping to see?

Just to clarify, GIANT Promotions is also bringing Benny Benassi to the Yost Theater in Orange County right after he finishes his set at WW. That event is not canceled. Our friends at the Yost have announced that Bennasi will be spinning from 12:15 – 2:00 AM. This event is 21+. Yost has made huge improvements since opening a few months ago, and always impresses us with their organization on big name events. If you can’t make it on NYE because you are at White Wonderland, don’t forget that Yost has a fully packed December with Wolfgang Gartner, Mord Fustang, Zedd, Gareth Emery, Reid Speed, Nervo, Chris Lake, Roger Sanchez, Green Velvet, and the Crystal method, all performing before the end of the year.

Now, a little bit more on what happened with TAO. Insomniac’s Pasquale Rotella’s press release on the topic basically said GoVentures events are not high enough quality to affiliate with the Insomniac brand:

“Insomniac works hard to set the standard in safety, production quality, and the overall value of our fans’ experience. Due to Various issues surrounding these basic commitments, I want all insomniac fans to know that we are no longer co-producing TAO.”

Ouch. Rotella went on to say that GoVentures had started selling tickets before the event has even been planned. This should worry everyone because of GoVenture’s recent failure to get Monster Massive 2011 to happen after selling tickets for months because they never had a contract signed by the venue- and they are attempting it again at the same venue. I wish GoVentures the best of luck, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from their organization at last year’s TAO not living up to other Insomniac festivals. (Entrance lines took some people over two hours, and the Dubstep stage VIP was 50 feet from the Arena stage VIP, yet they were not connected- you had to walk 360 degrees around the sports arena, which took over twenty minutes because of narrow, overcrowded walkways) That being said, Oak Canyon Park is a beautiful, grassy outdoor venue, as well as being one of my favorites. TAO plans on having Ducksauce, Dirty South, Diplo, The Bloody Beetroots and many other major names as well as a “special, choreographed, multimedia media countdown to 2012”. Will that be able to compete with White Wonderland? Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
