Remix Artist Collective (RAC) was started back in 2007 by André Allen Anjos with partners Andrew Maury (New York) and Karl Kling (Portland). Since then, the group has had multiple releases, remixing artists such as Kings of Leon, Phoenix, Foster The People, Chromeo, Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party and many more. Different from the typical “club mix,” their reworks tend to focus on bending the stems to work well with different genres while utilizing vintage sampling instruments and analog synthesizers.
They’ve just released their first official remix compilation album Chapter One, featuring their best work over the past 4 years. Their recent remix of Youngblood Hawke’s “We Come Running” is one of my favorites from RAC, encompassing the vocals nicely while keeping things simple and groovy. Youngblood Hawke’s Sam Martin told Rolling Stones that it “is a song about facing and conquering your fears. It’s a reminder to always follow your passion, even if it’s seems, at times, impossible.” Though not part of the Chapter One compilation, it is luckily available as a free download.
